Nestled between the town and the ski mountain, Beaver Run offers the best of both worlds with easy access to the fun and activities of downtown Breckenridge and steps from the slopes at Peak 9. Come join us in November and start your winter off right!
Ski Season Kick-Off
The Breckenridge Ski Area opens the second week of November, kicking off one of the longest ski seasons in North America. Anticipation for the upcoming winter buzzes throughout town. Locals and visitors alike delight at the first snowfalls, bars and restaurants hum with talk of the season, and equipment shops offer the best gear for the coming year.
As the official starting month of winter, November’s snowfall can be spotty. Opening the ski area depends on snowmaking. The Beaver Run SuperChair, just steps from our doors, begins operation by Thanksgiving.
November Activities Outdoors and Inside
Classic winter activities begin in November with snowboarding and skiing, cross country skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, winter hiking, and fat biking. Activities not usually associated with winter continue as well. Guided fly fishing and ATV tours provide unique experiences when snow covers the ground.
Activities like snowmobiling, dog sled tours, scenic snow cat rides, snow tubing, and sleigh rides require more snow coverage and usually open later in the month or in December. Be sure to check ahead and make reservations for the items on your Breckenridge To-Do list.
Non-snow related tours and activities are available no matter the season. For history lovers, Breckenridge offers free museums and interpretive sites, as well as docent-led tours of historic downtown and the adults-only Bawdy Breckenridge tour. And check out the strange-but-true tales around town guided by Breckenridge Ghost Tours.
Other indoor/outdoor pastimes include strolling Main Street for shopping and dining, and gold panning and tunnel tours at the Country Boy Mine. Don’t miss a visit to the town troll, Isak Heartstone. Or combine biking and adult beverages on a fat bike brewery or distillery tour.
With longer nights, November is the perfect month to enjoy Breckenridge’s live music scene, offering everything from well-known acts at the Riverwalk to open mic nights at your favorite pub.
For indoor fun, check out escape rooms, the Eclipse Theater for movies, and the Backstage Theater for productions. Create a souvenir to bring home with art classes and make-and-take offerings at Breck Create, pottery at Ready Paint Fire, or tie-dye at Mary GoRound. Beaver Run Resort expands your indoor options with our extensive arcade room, indoor/outdoor pool, hot tubs, and The Spa at Beaver Run.
What to Expect at the Ski Mountain in November
Most visitors to Breckenridge plan to ski, and skiing or snowboarding in November calls for planning. Limited areas of the mountain are open until adequate snow falls. High alpine terrain needs even more snow. It’s a rare year that you’ll be able to fully access all that the Breckenridge Ski Area offers until later in December. Yet November riding and skiing still offers loads of fun. It’s a great time to get your skiing or boarding legs ready for the season. Beginners especially love November because the easier runs are open and, with minimal crowds, the slopes feel more empowering.
What to Pack and Wear
Sweaters, a warm coat, hats and gloves – pack with winter in mind. Average daytime temperatures rarely exceed 40 degrees and the nights are down-right chilly! For outdoor activities, wear moisture wicking base layers, mid layers to trap body heat, and water-resistant outerwear, including hats, gloves or mittens, along with a scarf or neck gaiter. On the slopes, goggles are a must, and you’ll want sunglasses for around town. The sun remains powerful at our high altitude. Sunscreen is always recommended, even on cloudy days. For street wear, long pants or leggings, sweaters, light gloves and a stylish hat will set you up for shopping and dining. Breckenridge is a casual town, so dress-up clothes are not needed.
Special Events and Holidays
November focuses on the Thanksgiving holiday. Spencer’s Steaks & Spirits in Beaver Run Resort provides one of the best Thanksgiving dinners in town. Be sure to make your reservations in advance. Around town, restaurants and bars offer seasonal specials, live music, and the occasional comedy night. Check in with the Beaver Run concierge for up-to-date information.
Join us at Beaver Run Resort for the most fun you’ll have in November. It’s a great month to visit Breckenridge and get psyched for winter and all the unique activities that winter offers. With our location on the slopes and easy access to downtown, you won’t miss a thing.
