Reducing Our Environmental Impact to Ensure Sustainability and Access For Future Generations
At Beaver Run Resort, we believe in doing the right thing and protecting our beautiful Rocky Mountains. We have established a dedicated Green Committee focused on reducing our environmental impact, expanding our recycling programs, and lowering our carbon footprint.
Below are some of the initiatives currently in place at the resort:
All paper products — including newspapers, magazines, and office paper — are recycled.
Guest recycling bags are available in every guest room.
Additional recycling stations are located in all lobbies, the conference center, the Building 3 pool area, and outside the Concierge desk (with more locations coming soon).
All departments recycle paper, plastic, and aluminum.
All grease and cooking oil from our kitchens is collected and repurposed into biofuel.
Resource Wise Bronze Certification (2022) – Awarded by the High Country Conservation Center. The Resource Wise program recognizes Summit County businesses that reduce costs through sustainability efforts while positively impacting the county’s carbon footprint.
Energy Champion Award – Presented by the High Country Conservation Center for our garage lighting upgrade project. We converted 63 metal halide fixtures to energy-efficient LED canopy lights equipped with motion sensors. These sensors dim lighting to 30% when no activity is detected, saving more than 70,000 kWh of energy annually.
Transitioned from plastic to paper to-go bags in all dining outlets and the market.
Recycle 100% of kitchen grease and cooking oil for biofuel production.
Replaced disposable paper and plastic serviceware with reusable plates and glassware at Coppertop Bar & Restaurant and The Beaver Den Food Court.
Implemented staffed Conservation Stations (formerly “trash stations”), where team members sort landfill, recycling, and compost materials — significantly increasing our waste diversion rates.
All to-go containers are made from eco-friendly, biodegradable materials.
Composting has been introduced in all Food & Beverage outlets to divert food waste from the landfill.
Copy paper contains 20% post-consumer recycled content.
Guest room toilet paper is EPA-compliant and contains at least 20% post-consumer recycled material.
Facial tissue and bulk toilet paper in common areas are 100% recycled.
All in-room and restaurant coffee is USDA Organic.
Developing private-label, all-natural, eco-friendly in-room amenities.
EV charging stations are available on Level 4 (G4) of our parking garage.
Completed energy-efficiency upgrades to boiler systems, including pumps, boosters, controls, and heat exchangers.
The property undergoes biannual ASHRAE energy audits, ensuring that upgrade investments are directed toward projects that maximize energy conservation.
Partnered with Clean the World to collect and upcycle used soap bars, diverting waste from landfills.
Converted 234 fluorescent lights in the conference center to LED.
Replaced 50 bar lights in Coppertop with LED bulbs.
Upgraded hallway lighting in Buildings 2 and 3 from incandescent to LED.
Water conservation cards in guest rooms allow guests to opt into towel reuse.
Installing low-flow toilets on an as-needed basis.
Sheets are refreshed every fourth day unless otherwise requested by the guest.
Furniture from condos and the conference center is sold or donated to extend its lifecycle and reduce waste.
Beaver Run employees receive 8 paid volunteer hours annually to give back to our community.
Beaver Run sponsors annual employee volunteer days in partnership with Friends of the Dillon Ranger District.
As part of the Town of Breckenridge’s Sustainable Breck Plan, disposable plastic bags have been reduced community-wide since October 2013. Grocery stores no longer provide plastic disposable bags; paper bags are available for purchase.
We encourage guests to shop like a local and bring a reusable bag. Reusable bags are available for purchase at our Skywalk Market and at most retail stores throughout Breckenridge.

Here are a few simple ways to reduce your environmental impact while visiting Breckenridge:
Bring a reusable water bottle. We have bottle refill stations located throughout the resort, and there are several additional refill stations around town. See the Water Refill Station Map for locations.
Use public transportation. Breckenridge offers a free bus system called FREERIDE, and Beaver Run provides a complimentary in-town shuttle. Around here, we like to encourage Boots, Bikes, or Bus whenever possible.
We’re committed to welcoming you to Beaver Run for a fun and safe stay.
